Sunnyside Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee

The DEIA Committee is running a campaign to promote the upcoming July Board elections while applying a DEIA lens through our outreach process. The committee is looking to build a future Board that represents the diversity of the neighborhood and restructure a more inclusive neighborhood association that folks feel inspired to join and be a part of. The DEIA Committee is partnering with the Hawthorne Business Association (HBA) to create a culture values statement and host more cultural events throughout the year. More details on calendar access to culture events will be shared in the August newsletter. The next committee meeting will be Tuesday, July 6th at 6:30 p.m. Virtual meeting details will be posted on the SNA website on July 5th.

Sunnyside DEIA Committee

The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association (SNA) has started a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee and we invite the neighborhood to help shape what this committee will provide for the Sunnyside Neighborhood. Please come to our upcoming meetings on Tuesday, June 1st and Tuesday, June 15th at 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. to help us plan a campaign for the upcoming Neighborhood Association Board elections. We aim to apply a DEIA lens towards the campaign to be inclusive, equitable, diverse, and accessible. Bring your curiosity. Come with an openness to have meaningful conversations and an eagerness to make a supportive impact on our neighborhood at-large. We look forward to building this committee together!

Help Us Repaint the Sunnyside Piazza

Since 2001, Sunnyside neighbors have come together to re-paint a sunflower at the intersection of SE 33rd and Yamhill. Sunnyside Piazza is Portland’s second oldest intersection repair project, which was organized by residents, originally in partnership with City Repair. Being neighbors of the intersection, Portland Street Art Alliance (PSAA) has managed the annual repainting activities since 2012. This year, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association (SNA) is partnering with PSAA to spearhead the project and carry the torch for bringing back the neighborhood landmark. We are asking our community to help support the framework of this project by applying for the permits, purchasing paint, and other expenses that will occur. The SNA and PSAA would be very appreciative of your contribution to our GoFundMe fundraiser. You can donate directly via https://www.gofundme.com/f/sunnyside-piazza or via the SNA website homepage. Follow the Sunnyside Piazza Facebook page for up-to-date details and ways to get involved.

Sunnyside Winter Gear Drive for our Houseless Neighbors

January is a great time to clean out your closet—and your basement. What still brings you joy and what can you pass along to someone less fortunate? The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association encourages you to donate lightly used and even some new items for our Winter Gear Drive. People who are living outside, in particular, need rainproof clothing, boots, and coats to keep them dry and warm for the cold months ahead.  Continue reading “Sunnyside Winter Gear Drive for our Houseless Neighbors”
