Sunnyside Shower Project Spring Donation Drive!

As the seasons change, our community members experiencing homelessness still need essential supplies to stay safe and comfortable. We are collecting the following items to support our guests:

• Tents and sleeping bags
• Shelf-stable non-perishable snacks
• Unisex clothing and shoes (no dressy
   attire or children’s clothes please)
• Socks and underwear
• Hygiene supplies
• Tea, coffee and electrolytes

Donations can be dropped off at 3520 SE Yamhill St during our regular hours of operation: Tuesdays & Thursdays: 1–5p.m., Saturdays: 2–6 p.m. Your generosity helps us provide warmth, nourishment, and dignity to those in need. Thank you for being part of this effort!

Winter Clothing Drive

For the fifth year in a row, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association Community Care committee is organizing a Winter Clothing Drive for our houseless neighbors. The drive will be on Sunday, December 8th in the basement of the Sunnyside Methodist Church on 35th and Yamhill. A crew of volunteers will be on hand to collect clothing donations from 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m. The main event will be held from 1–5 p.m. the same day.

We especially need:

  Winter coats and raincoats
  Pants, jeans, and sweatpants
  Sweaters and sweatshirts
  T-shirts—long and short-sleeved
  Long underwear
New underwear (both men’s and women’s)
New or lightly worn socks (wool preferred)
  Boots and shoes
• Tarps, tents, sleeping bags (especially important this year as the City is no longer providing)
Warm hats, gloves, scarves, and belts

Please do not donate children’s clothing, toys or dressy/formal clothing.

We will be promoting the event to our shower guests, partner agencies, and local businesses (and on Instagram at @sunnysideshowerproject). If you would like to help publicize the event or if your workplace wants to donate gear, clothing, or gift cards, please reach out to Valerie Ross at [email protected].

Help Us Repaint the Sunnyside Piazza

Since 2001, Sunnyside neighbors have come together to re-paint a sunflower at the intersection of SE 33rd and Yamhill. Sunnyside Piazza is Portland’s second oldest intersection repair project, which was organized by residents, originally in partnership with City Repair. Being neighbors of the intersection, Portland Street Art Alliance (PSAA) has managed the annual repainting activities since 2012. This year, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association (SNA) is partnering with PSAA to spearhead the project and carry the torch for bringing back the neighborhood landmark. We are asking our community to help support the framework of this project by applying for the permits, purchasing paint, and other expenses that will occur. The SNA and PSAA would be very appreciative of your contribution to our GoFundMe fundraiser. You can donate directly via https://www.gofundme.com/f/sunnyside-piazza or via the SNA website homepage. Follow the Sunnyside Piazza Facebook page for up-to-date details and ways to get involved.
